What to ask before you book
- Q1What snowfall depth starts a visit, and who clears a 3 cm snowfall?
- Q2Is there a cap on total snowfall, and what does each event cost after it?
- Q3Do you come back for the windrow after the City plows my street?
- Q4Does the price change if my driveway is on a bus route or a City sidewalk crosses it?
- Q5Is HST in the price, and what does it cost to cancel once the markers are in?
Before the visit
- Street, postal code and nearest main road: St. Joseph Boulevard, Innes Road or Trim Road
- Driveway size in cars: about 2 to 3, 4, or 6
- Whether a City sidewalk runs across the end of the driveway
- Walkway, steps and garage front you want shovelled
- Photo of anything that sticks up from the driveway surface, such as a water valve cap
East-end streets by decade
Orléans changed from farmland to suburb starting in the late 1960s, with Queenswood Heights among the first large developments. Convent Glen and Orléans Woods followed in the 1970s, as improvements to Highway 174 brought the area closer to central Ottawa. Chapel Hill and Fallingbrook came in the 1980s and 1990s as low-density neighbourhoods with single-family homes. By 2021 the community counted 139,309 residents.
Put the decade your street was built in the request, and say whether there is lawn on both sides of your driveway or only one, so the operator knows where the snow can go.
Reading one east-end price list
One Orléans firm publishes its season prices. Tractor clearing runs $529.95 for a single driveway that fits 2 to 3 cars, $579.95 for a double (4 cars) and $604.95 for a triple (6 cars). Adding hand shovelling of one walkway, the front steps and the garage front raises that to $814.90 to $889.90. A 2.5 cm trigger adds 30% to that package: $1,059.37 to $1,156.87. HST is extra, and seniors get 5% off.
Those numbers belong to one firm. The company that calls you sets its own price. Use them to compare what is included: the trigger depth, shovelling, the windrow return and the snowfall cap.
Caps, triggers and the fine print
Read the limits in any season contract. The firm above runs from November 1 to April 1, clears snowfalls of 5 cm or more, and leaves drifting and small accumulations to the homeowner. After 250 cm at Ottawa Airport or 22 serviceable events, whichever comes first, each event costs $30 plus tax unless you opt out in writing. It also charges a $50 plus tax fee to cancel after markers go in.
Ask the company that calls you for the same points in writing before you pay.
The City’s part
The City clears Highway 174, the Transitway and major roads from the start of a snowfall, residential sidewalks after 5 cm and residential streets after 7 cm. The windrow the street plow leaves at your driveway is yours to clear, and snow from your lot cannot go back onto the street or sidewalk. Ask whether the season price covers a return trip after the City plow.
Who you are dealing with

Questions
01Why would my street change the price?
One Orléans firm adds $75 for driveways on main streets with bus routes, or with a City sidewalk attached. Ask whether the company you speak to charges the same way, and what the extra covers.
02What happens in a winter with more snow than usual?
Read the snowfall cap. One Orléans firm’s 2026–27 terms renew the contract at $30 plus tax per snow event once Ottawa Airport records more than 250 cm, or after 22 events, unless you opt out. Ask for the cap, the per-event price and the opt-out rule on paper.
03Will a 3 cm snowfall be cleared?
Season contracts can start at a set depth. The firm above clears from 5 cm, and offers a 2.5 cm option for 30% more than its driveway-and-walkway package; smaller accumulations stay with the homeowner. Ask what depth triggers your visit.
04Who helps older Orléans residents pay for snow clearing?
The Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre runs Snow Go for eastern Ottawa, including Cumberland and Gloucester, and Montfort Renaissance serves French-speaking residents city-wide. Snow Go Assist pays up to 50% per event, to a season maximum of $250 ($450 in some rural cases), for eligible low-income residents 60 or older or persons with a disability when no one in the home can do the work. The 2026/2027 deadline is November 27, 2026.
