In short
- Stittsville sits about 20 km west of downtown Ottawa; 44% of its homes were built since 2016, its ward councillor reported in 2024.
- One Stittsville-based firm lists $495 a season for a single driveway and $545 for a double.
- HomeStars puts Stittsville seasonal contracts at $300 to $1,800+ and single visits at $40 to $150.
- Main roads, bus routes, school streets and sidewalk streets cost more at one local firm, because City plows pass more often.

From a village on Carp Road to a thousand homes a year
Stittsville began in 1854 around Carp Road and Hazeldean Road, now Old Stittsville, about 20 km west of downtown Ottawa. After water and sewer service was approved in the 1970s, Wyldewood and Amberwood were established by 1991, then came Jackson Trails, Fairwinds and Hartsmere. Hazeldean Road went to four lanes around 2009.
The ward councillor wrote in 2024 that about 1,000 homes and apartments go up each year and that 44% of all homes date from 2016 or later. South of Hazeldean, the City’s Fernbank plan covers about 674 hectares and 9,700 to 11,000 homes. One route here can mix older crescents, townhouse rows and streets still under construction.
Two local price sheets, two ways to sell a winter
Two snow firms based in Stittsville publish their terms. The first posts season rates for Stittsville and Kanata: $495 single, $545 double, $370 and $420 shared when both attached neighbours sign, and $15 off for clients 60 or older.
The second quotes each address at one of three levels:
- Snowbird. One pass at the end of each snow event, with no return trips.
- Standard. Every 5 cm+ snowfall, typically 2+ passes in larger storms, a complimentary day-after visit after storms of about 10 cm+, and a bookable return visit for moved cars.
- Supreme. Standard plus a single pass for 2.5 to 4.9 cm, December 1 to April 1.
Ask each company to name the level its price covers. What a lower start depth buys: trigger depth.
What a winter on one Stittsville route looked like
The first firm publishes a log of every outing. For 2025–26 it lists 37 between November 9 and March 20. Ten started between midnight and 6 a.m. Eight ran longer than 12 hours from start to finish; the longest, on December 24, took 18 and a half hours.
The second firm aims to finish its first pass 4 to 6 hours after crews head out, and generally skips overnight clearing for snowfalls under 7 cm. Put your weekday leaving time in the request. More: early morning clearing.
Hazeldean, Stittsville Main and the sidewalk streets
The City plows major roads and arterials from the start of accumulation. Residential sidewalks start at 5 cm and can take 12 to 16 hours after the last snowflake; residential roads wait for 7 cm and take 10 to 16 hours. Each pass can leave a ridge across your driveway, and the City makes the owner responsible for it.
The second firm’s 2026–27 terms add a premium for homes on main roads, bus routes, near schools or with a sidewalk crossing the driveway, and its resource page says crews return to those homes the morning after each 5 cm+ storm. On Hazeldean, Stittsville Main, Carp Road or Huntmar, say so up front.
New streets, newer driveways
- EV cables. The second firm wants charging cables unplugged and moved out of the clearing area.
- Size and surface. A widened driveway, or markers moved to clear more, can bring an adjusted invoice.
- Clearance. Branches and basketball nets need 12 feet at the second firm; the first asks for 10 feet under branches.
- Markers. The City allows them October 20 to April 30, two per property, 5 feet from a sidewalk or 7 feet from the road edge.
The money lines in a 2026–27 contract
The second firm’s terms, modified April 2026, cap the moving parts:
- Season. November 1 to April 1, or 300 cm at Ottawa airport; past that, $1 a centimetre to $50, with a chance to opt out.
- Light winter. Under 150 cm, a credit of $1 a centimetre, up to $50.
- Fuel. $5 per event if diesel climbs 20% above its November 1 price, $50 at most.
- Cancelling. Full refund to September 30, a $50 fee in October, no refund from November 1.
Ontario requires a written contract for most services over $50 and gives 10 days to cancel one signed at home. More: prepaid contract rights.
Help with the bill in K2S
Snow Go Assist is City-funded and run for K2S by the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre. It repays up to 50% of snow removal costs for eligible residents 60 or older or adults with a physical disability, on a signed contract or proof of payment. Forms are due in early December.
Who you are dealing with
Ottawa Snow Desk passes your Stittsville request to one independent local snow clearing company. That company calls you back, agrees the service level and season price with you, and clears your driveway through the winter.
Questions to ask the company
- Which service level is this price for, and how many passes in a 20 cm storm?
- Is my street priced as a main road, bus route, school street or sidewalk street, and what does that add?
- What snowfall cap, light-winter credit and fuel surcharge apply, with their dollar limits?
- What does cancelling cost after the markers go in?
- Can you show your City snow plow contractor licence and the orange plate with this year's sticker?
Have this ready for the call
- Nearest main road: Hazeldean, Stittsville Main, Carp Road, Huntmar or Fernbank
- Driveway size in cars, any widening, and the surface: asphalt, interlock or gravel
- Whether a City sidewalk crosses the driveway end, and any school or bus stop on the street
- Where cars and any EV charging cable sit on winter nights
Questions people ask
My Fernbank street is still being built. What should I mention?
One local firm’s terms count delivery trucks, contractor cars and street parking that block a pass as obstructions, cleared at the next qualifying snowfall. Say if your driveway is still gravel: it must be packed down before service starts.
When will my driveway be cleared after an overnight storm?
It depends on the start time and your place on the route. One firm says snow starting at 10 or 11 p.m. is cleared once by 6:30 a.m.; snow starting at 2:30 to 3:30 a.m. may wait until 11 a.m.
What is a Snowbird plan?
At one Stittsville firm, a single pass at the end of each snow event, with no return trips or day-after visits. Its terms warn that accumulation is expected on main roads and sidewalks.
I charge an electric car in the driveway. Does that matter?
Yes. One local firm’s 2026–27 terms ask for the cable to be unplugged and moved out of the clearing area, and exclude damage to charging gear left there.
Is the end of October too late to sign up?
Money terms tighten. One firm’s 2026–27 terms charge $50 to cancel in October and refund nothing from November 1. Ontario adds 10 days to cancel a contract signed at home.
